Chapter 7
Christi still couldn't get over how successful the dinner had been. It had been nothing short of amazing. She had played her part excellently, leading Damien to believe that he had made the right choice in asking her.
There was something that still rang in her mind though. It was how quickly she had answered the question about how they met. Christi was merely telling the truth but that also meant that she was finally coming to terms with the fact that she actually did feel drawn to Damien. She didn't know why or what it was, but she found herself a lot more willing to spend time with him, which was great, because it seemed like it was the same for him too.
Christi had gotten invited by Damien to join him at a restaurant opening. When he asked her, he had also told her that there was no one he would rather go with than her. She didn't know if he meant it or not, but her heart had flipped when she heard his words. She had decided to play it cool though and not read too much into it.
Damien had insisted that in order not to have a repeat of the unpreparedness that they had both felt at the dinner, they should try to get to know each other more, at least more than just on a surface level. The reasoning behind this idea was that it would be easier for them to answer questions about each other more readily, if they actually knew some facts about each other.
To avoid the tradition which had happened in most of their meetings, Damien had opted to pick her up. Damien was always on time, and Christi could never understand it. It wasn't like Christi was always tardy, but Damien had a way of showing up at the exact time they set for anything.
Thus, it was no surprise that at exactly 8:00 pm, the sound of a car horn could be heard just outside her apartment. Christi had made sure that she was ready this time, so by the time Damien was out of the car and knocking on her door, she was already standing there fully dressed and all ready to go.
âHi!â she greeted him, with a smile, as she opened the door to him.
âHeyââ Damien's mouth hung open mid-sentence when he saw her, making her blush a little.
âWhat is it?â she asked shyly.
âYou're breathtaking,â he said. There was no hint that he was joking. His tone displayed only seriousness. âReally, you look absolutely amazing, just . . . wow.â
Christi looked down at her red evening gown. It didn't seem like a lot to her, but Damien seemed to appreciate it, and that delighted her.
âYou look good too,â she said, admiring his dark blue suit. âYou look so serious though.â Christi laughed, and Damien followed suit.
âYeah, the restaurant opening is for a friend, but I might as well show up like a high-functioning member of society.â
âIsn't that what you are already?â
âYes, but I've never been with such a beautiful lady before.
